The Ever Increasing Countdown

A number of folks have commented on the fact that the countdown widget at esposure.com continually increases (instead of continually decreases). Trust me, the release of the esposure.com is really forthcoming, but when you actually see a prototype, you get a very clear idea of what you really want. It’s difficult to turn project specifications written on paper (or hard disk) to its actual implementation as envisioned in your mind. If you believe everything you read on Wikipedia, then you believe that Kevin Rose, founder of Digg.com, created Digg.com with $1000. However, if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find that this isn’t exactly accurate. If you let Jay Adelson, the CEO of Digg.com, tell it, he claims that it wasn’t more than $5000. $5K is “a lot” more than $1K, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s still very reasonable given the current success of Digg.com. Apparently, Kevin got an initial quote of $2K based on his initial project specifications in September ‘04. However, Kevin continually sent back each revision of the Website for more revisions increasing the cost of the Website. Each revision revealed to him what he really wanted. Digg.com didn’t launch until December ’04. I wouldn’t say my situation is currently like Kevin’s was, but there are definitely some similarities.
Takeaway: When implementing a vision, it always takes longer than you think! Luckily, I have experience with implementing things, and I can empathize with coders.
